Welcome to EmpowerSF.org
The official website of the Neighborhood Empowerment Network (NEN)
The NEN is a collaboration of city agencies, non-profits, faith based organizations, academic institutions and local community stakeholders. Its goal is to empower neighborhoods to take leadership roles in stewarding their community to becoming cleaner, greener, healthier, more inclusive places to live and work.
The NEN will achieve this goal by developing a suite of resources and strategic partnerships that will help streamline stakeholder access to the tools necessary for achieving a sustainable level of resiliency in the face of any challenge as well as the capacity to leverage any opportunity.
Specifically the NEN is:
- Building a brand new Empowersf.org website that will feature every organization, program, event and document that a community leader would need to access to either improve their community or promote their work to their neighbors.
- Launching the first official node of the NEN University in partnership with SF State University's Institute for Civic and Community Engagement. We'll be making a multi-year commitment to several neighborhoods in the City beginning in the Fall to act as a platform that will not only help them identify and prioritize their challenges and goals but also support them in addressing and achieving them as well.
- Bringing NENtv back to a screen near you with the addition of our first ever media manager. Who knows? We may be featuring you on an upcoming episode.
And much, much more.
So stay tuned and keep an eye open for future updates.

The NEN Awards was a huge success!
On November 13th, 2008 hundreds of San Franciscans came together in the North Light Court of City Hall and spent an entire evening celebrating what’s right with our City at the 2008 NEN Awards featuring the 2009 Community Challenge Grants.
